چکیده

Hamiltonian chains of oscillators in general probably do not sustain exact travelling discrete breathers. However solutions which look like moving discrete breathers for some time are not difficult to observe in numerics. In this paper we propose an abstract framework for the description of approximate travelling discrete breathers in Hamiltonian chains of oscillators. The method is based on the construction of an effective Hamiltonian enabling one to describe the dynamics of the translation degree of freedom of moving breathers. Error estimate on the approximate dynamics is also studied. The concept of Peierls-Nabarro barrier can be made clear in this framework. We illustrate the method on two simple examples, namely the Salerno model which interpolates between the Ablowitz-Ladik lattice and the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger system, and the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam chain.

Effective Hamiltonian for Traveling Discrete Breathers in the Fpu Chain

For the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam chain, an effective Hamiltonian is constructed, describing the motion of approximate, weakly localized discrete breathers traveling along the chain. The velocity of these moving and localized vibrations can be estimated analytically as the group velocity of the corresponding wave packet. The Peierls-Nabarro barrier is estimated for strongly localized discrete breathers.

Surface magnetoinductive breathers in two-dimensional magnetic metamaterials.

We study discrete surface breathers in two-dimensional lattices of inductively coupled split-ring resonators with capacitive nonlinearity. We consider both conservative (Hamiltonian) and analyze the properties of the modes localized in space and periodic in time (discrete breathers) located in the corners and on the edges of the lattice. We find that surface breathers in the Hamiltonian systems...

Dynamics of discrete breathers in the integrable model of the 1D crystal

In the frame of the exactly integrable model of the 1D crystal — Hirota lattice model — the dynamics and interaction of the discrete breathers has been considered. These high-frequency localized nonlinear excitations elastically interact with each other and with such excitations as shock and linear waves. Using the nonlinear superposition formula the pair collision processes of the excitations ...

Multi-peak breather stability in a dissipative discrete Nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation

We study the stability of breather solutions of a dissipative cubic discrete NLS with localized forcing. The breathers are similar to the ones found for the Hamiltonian limit of the system. In the case of linearly stable multi-peak breathers the combination of dissipation and localized forcing also leads to stability, and the apparent damping of internal modes that make the energy around multi-...

Multibreather and Vortex Breather stability in Klein-Gordon Lattices: Equivalence between Two Different Approaches

In this work, we revisit the question of stability of multibreather configurations, i.e. discrete breathers with multiple excited sites at the anti-continuum limit of uncoupled oscillators. We present two methods that yield quantitative predictions about the Floquet multipliers of the linear stability analysis around such exponentially localized in space, time-periodic orbits, based on the Aubr...
